LEC Spring Split 2025: Fnatic vs GiantX – A New Beginning
The 2025 LEC Spring Split is almost upon us, and anticipation is high for the upcoming match between Fnatic and GiantX. This clash marks the first game of the new split, setting the stage for the months of thrilling League of Legends with the addition of Fearless Draft being the default tournament format for the rest of 2025.
Both teams will be eager to start strong, hoping to land a key victory in the early split. The game will be played on Patch 25.06 which includes a notable buff to Naafiri – a champion that is ravaging solo queue right now. It’ll be interesting to see if she’s picked as it will be her competitive debut in the LEC.
Let’s dive into what we can expect from this match-up, analyzing the state of the patch, the expected meta, and the dynamics between Fnatic and GiantX.
What’s the meta – Who to expect on the rift
Top:
With the changes that we saw at First Stand with the removal of lane swaps, expect to see Rumble become a staple of the toplane. A strong champion at all stages in the game, Rumble can hard carry teams to victory
Jungle:
We expect Vi to be a priority pick in the Jungle for this patch, as her lockdown potential and strong fighting compliment a roaming-mid meta that appears when lane swaps are not viable
Mid:
Both Taliyah and Azir seem to be strongest in this role at the moment. We wouldn’t be surprised if both of these champions become hot commodities in the midlane
Bot:
Now that lane swaps are banned in competitive League of Legends, a strong botlane is essential to victory. During First Stand we saw huge bot gaps across the tournament, leading to losses if you got stomped. Because of this, we expect some solid picks like Ezreal and Varus to succeed as they can keep safe in lane and scale into late game.
Support:
Leona is top dog as support right now. Hard engage, long living and the power of the sun – what more can you want?
Players to watch:
Since this is the first match of the Sprint Split, it’s hard to pick a player who might stand out. We will need to see more results to be able to determine who will shine during the season. However, Razork as the potential to be a season MVP if he can lock down his dominant playstyle early.
Jungle has always been one of the most pivotal roles in League of Legends and Razork is no stranger to the pressure of the LEC as this will be his 6th year of competing at the top level of European League of Legends. After receiving previous Rooke of the Split award, we would hope that he has matured to a position of carrying Fnatic through this Split as they unfortunately missed out on qualifying for First Stand earlier in the year with a disappointing 3 – 2 loss to Karmine Corp.
